A farmer living
within 5 miles of the claim. Had known Charles
M. Cockrill for 13 years. Charles M. Cockrill
a citizen of the United States over the age of 21. A married man and the head
of a family. Has never made a homestead entry before. That he had settled his
land Dec. 15, 1876 and at once established a residence there. ...has a good dwelling house about 24x16 - four rooms
& kitchen a first class farm for about ten horses -- has over two miles
rail fence and a small out house - His improvements are worth over $1000. Lives there with a wife and two children. He has cultivated about 75 acres and has each season
for the past four years raised a crop of wheat & barley on
it. |

business and resides in Salinas City but has known the Chas. M. Cockrill place
for the past 6 years, who had settled there in Dec 1876 and bought it from S.
P. Carter who had a house there. ...built another dwelling -- His dwelling has
four rooms besides a kitchen and pantry is about 22x16-1 has a barn 32x18 and a
shed outside -- has 3 miles rail fencing -- Improvements worth $1000 -- has an
orchard of 50 acres ... has cultivated about 75 acres and has raised barley
& wheat on it for the past five years -- also fruit producing
orchard. Has two children and a wife living
with him. |

I bought the
place from S. P. Carter in Dec 1876. There was a good dwelling house on it then
and on Dec 15, 1876 I moved in with my wife and family -- I afterwards put up a
new house 24x16 with four rooms and a kitchen and pantry also a large barn for
ten [10] horses 32x18 with a shed outside for wagons & machinery I have
planted an orchard of 60 fruit trees all through and producing fruit. My
fencing is about 3 miles 2 miles of it rails balance brush -- My improvements
worth $1500-- I have a wife and two children --
we have all resided there continuously since Dec 15, 1876. I have cultivated for the past five years 75 acres --
and raised wheat & barley each year - for the past five years - also hay
enough for my horses -- and also raised fruit from my orchard of about 60
trees. |

Notice is hereby
given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intention to
make final proof of support of his claim, and that said proof will be made
before the Judge of the Superior Court of Monterey county at the County Seat,
on Wednesday, March 28, 1888, viz: Charles M. Cockrill, Homestead Application,
No. 5082, for the SE 1/4 of Sec 24, T 19, S R 5 E, M D M. He names the
following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of,
said land, viz: Wm. Moore, A. M. Tash, and John W. Drake, of Soledad P.O., and
Joe Johnson, Salinas P.O., all of Monterey Co., Cal. |
