Concerning the Death of Henry Augustus Grant

Excerpt from the San Jose Mercury, November 25, 1887, Friday Morning:

...The gallows was tested yesterday afternoon and found to be in perfect working order.
It is expected to have the execution occur as nearly on the tap on the noon bell as possible.
At the request of the condemned man Dr. Curnow will be in attendance with a galvanic battery and will attempt to resuscitate him after he is pronounced dead by the physicians representing the State. While the chance of success is small, there is a small chance, as medical works record a number of cases where men have ben revived after apparent death by strangulation.
A life-size photograph was yesterday taken of Goslaw, at the request of his wife.
Although Mrs. Goslaw has probably gazed upon the features of her husband for the last time in life, she yesterday afternoon sent him an affectionate and touchingly worded letter. This he perused frequently through the night, seeming to derive great comfort therefrom.
A number of letters and telegrams were sent from San Jose and San Francisco yesterday beseeching Governor Waterman to at least grant a reprieve until he can examine into the case more thoroughly.
