Bruce Travis Cockrill was born Jan.
4th 1852 in Red Dirt. Bates County, Missouri. He was the youngest son of Larkin
Davenport Cockrill and Diadamie Stamps Cockrill. Diadamie Stamps Cockrill was
born in Kentucky and date and place is not [known]
to writer. She died in Bloomfield, Calif. Larkin Davenport Cockrill was
born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Jan. 4th 1800 and he died in
Bloomfield, Calif., 1886 and is buried in Bloomfield Cemetery. We do know that
the mother of Larkin Davenport Cockrill was daughter of a Joseph Venable, who
fought at the Battle of the Cowpens, North Carolina, in the Revolutionary War.
Bruce Travis, a Physician and Surgeon, died Dec. 28th. 1923, in Santa Rosa,
Calif.
William Aaron Cockrill was married
Feb. 11th. 1903 in Bloomfield, Calif, to Lulu Ida Colburn and one daughter,
Willa Idaleen Carsely, was born in Bloomfield, Calif., June 6th 1909 and
Wilbert Donald, born in Bloomfield, Calif., Jan 23rd 1916.
Lora Tallman married Thomas McCready, in Bloomfield,
Calif., Nov. 28th 1900 and was latter divorced from him. One daughter, Margaret
Jane, was born from this marriage. She later married Martin Black in
Sacramento, Calif., Margaret Jane McCready.
William Ambrose Middagh died in Sacramento, Cal. March
30th 1907. Willie Middagh married Harry Vonderhorst in Sacramento, Cal. June
12, 1914.
Harry Vonderhorst died in Oakland,
Cal. Feb. 21st 1920.
Albert Simonet died in
Santa Rosa, Cal. Jan. 3rd 1930.
Joseph Venable
was the father of [space] Venable who married
Andrew Cockrill and they were the parents of Larkin Davenport Cockrill who was
born in 1800 in South Carolina and died in Sonoma County California in 1886.
Joseph Venable was in the Revolutionary War and fought in South Carolina (I
think he was in the Battle of Cowpens). Larkin Davenport Cockrill married
Didamia Stamps in Kentucky and she moved with him to California in 1853 and
located in Bloomfield, Sonoma Co., Calif. They were the parents of a large
family, most of whom are since dead, the only child living being Mrs. Elizabeth
Hoag [bd. 3 Nov 1840] of Santa Rosa, Calif. and
who will be 87 years of age on the 3rd day of next November
[indicating this was written about 1927]. The only
male members living of the Cockrill family are Wm. A., Obie, Robert L., George,
Bruce Larkin and Logan Davenport Cockrill. Wm. A. Cockrill is the father of two
sons. Theodore G. Cockrill, oldest son of Larkin Davenport Cockrill, has one
Harry B. Cockrill, living in New York CIty and is known under the name of Harry
Bradley. Fred H. Miller, of San Rafael is a son of a daughter of the late
Larkin D. Cockrill and Didamia Stamps Cockrill, and Wm. Fowler of Alameda City,
is also a son of another daughter. Mrs. Elizabeth Hoag of Santa Rosa, is the
mother of Cushing E. Hoag, of Santa Rosa, Edwin Hoag of Santa Rosa, Dr. O. H.
Hoag, and Hebert Hoag of San Francisco, Cal. and also of several daughters,
Nellie and Aletha, of Santa Rosa, and Mrs. Edith Townsend of El Paso,
Texas.
