Dear
Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,
Eight of us gathered at the cemetery yesterday. Thanks to all of you who arranged to come, and to Regional Parks for providing us tools! It was a lovely, sunny day - cool, and perfect for a work day. (See first attachment).
Since we were last gathered at Spring Hill two months ago, the grasses had encroached upon the cemetery (attachment 2). I have never seen this large of an infestation in such a short period of time. The Southern end of the cemetery was particularly affected. Much of our time was spent in taming the grasses, as well as raking paths and hauling away debris (attachments 3, 4 and 5). Our hope is that we can keep knocking down these intruders enough that the problem recedes and doesn't spread to other areas of the cemetery.
We worked steadily until our trailer was overflowing with debris. The plan is to have another work day on June 25th, to keep up with taming grasses and clearing paths. Pencil June 25th on your calendars, as I have yet to have it approved by Regional Parks. If the date needs adjusting, I will send out another email.
The cemetery is still beautifully green at this point, but we are expecting drought conditions this summer. Hope you are all staying well, and hope to see you soon at the cemetery.
Best Regards,
Sue
