Dear
Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,
It was HOT at our cemetery. We had seven brave enough to come slave away in the heat. Besides our usual dump truck and tool trailer, Regional Parks kindly brought us very needed extra iced waters and drinks, as well as my favorite, cheetos....
When I got to the cemetery, Regional Parks had just dropped off our supplies and were turning around in their extra truck so that the two Regional Parks workers could leave. In doing that they spotted a great horned owl, which had flown into the metal gate opposite the cemetery, and injured itself. Andrew, of Parks, gathered it up in his coat, and they brought the owl to Bird Rescue for treatment. But it made for a very exciting start to our day. The owl was gorgeous, so majestic. Thanks, Andrew, for rescuing it. It was such a wonderful experience to be part of.
Our next challenge was that the dangerous trees that were storm damaged in November, had come down upon the Finley section of the cemetery. Several heavy limbs lay on top of our stones and wooden markers. Much of our workday was spent in cutting up the downed tree, and hauling it away to the dump truck. Thanks, Jiim, for coming to the rescue. As you can see from the fourth picture, we were able to clear away the mess, and the stones and markers were luckily left undamaged.
We still had time to rake and clear most of the paths, but in the heat it was absolutely exhausting. As we were completely spent by 11 am, we declared the workday over. We did not get to all the paths as we would have wanted before time and energy ran out, but we will get to them on our next workday, August 26th. Hopefully, it will be MUCH cooler that day! Please mark your calendars, and come and join us if you can.
Best Regards,
Sue
