Dear
Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,
Eight of us gathered at the still very wet cemetery yesterday for our last 2021 workday. The sky was foggy (attachment 1), and the temperature was pleasantly cool.
October's "atmospheric river" had not been kind to Spring Hill. Several of our trees were badly damaged by the storms (attachment 2), and broken branches littered the cemetery floor. Luckily none of our stones have yet been damaged by the large, dangling broken branches. Regional parks workers documented the damage, put hazzard tape around particularly dangerous parts, and have referred the problem to the maintenance supervisor. Hopefully all will be attended to before damage occurs.
Our group of volunteers were fully occupied with just hauling off downed limbs and loading debris into the dump trailer (attachments 3 and 4), so we did not search for more stones. Sally is pursuing the feasibility of using Canine Forensic Dogs to search out remaining grave locations, and we have Michael with advanced metal detectors ready to try to locate hardware on buried gravesites. I will keep you updated!! There are still over 30 burials at Spring Hill that we have yet to locate.
This was our last workday of the year, but we plan to start back up in February of 2022. Wishing you all safe, healthy, and happy holidays.
Best Regards,
Sue
