Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery, Yesterday was sunny and bright, with a touch of fall in the air. The cemetery had enjoyed a wet October, and the trees and vines looked much happier for it. Nine of us gathered under perfect working conditions for this last workday of 2016. Our focus was on clearing the paths of the fall leaves. As you can see from the first two pictures, the paths were covered in leaves, and we easily filled up our dump truck. The cemetery is in great shape, our paths and stones well maintained and ready for winter storms. This past year completed 10 full years of cemetery restoration and maintenance. But even 10 years into working on Spring Hill we are still making new discoveries. 2016 saw the return and resetting of Thomas B Ashley's headstone. We also probed and uncovered a new significant headstone base in the Robertson area of the cemetery. There are still many areas of the cemetery that may contain still more "finds." It is easiest to probe for them in spring when the ground is soft. We will be continuing our search in spring of 2017. It is time to set dates for our 2017 workdays so that we can submit our requests to Regional Parks for approval. I have tentatively set the following dates - February 17 April 7 May 5 Aug 4 Sep 22 Nov 17 Please send me comments, so that I can revise and send dates onto Regional Parks. Thanks for all your support for our efforts in 2016. Wishing you very happy holidays. Best Regards, Sue
