Dear
Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,
Nine of us gathered under spectacular fall skies to join in today's workday. Conditions were perfect: sunny and cool with eucalyptus and bay scents wafting over the cemetery. Regional parks as usual had provided us with tools and a dump truck. Today's goals: update our cemetery map, plant a replacement tree in the Zilhart enclosure, and clean up our paths and markers.
Paul Schoch once again volunteered to update our official Spring Hill map. Our last update was made in September of 2016 when we added Thomas B Ashley, Florence May Lavender, and an unmarked base. Today Paul added in our newly discovered Cora and Evilena Heffron stones. Many thanks, Paul, for keeping us up to date. If any of you are interested in a current large format copy of the map, once it is updated, copies can be obtained from Sebastopol Blue. Or I will be happy to email a .pdf version to anyone who asks. Our first "official" map was drawn in 2010, with new discoveries requiring revisions in 2011, 2015, 2016, and today Betsy and Jim kindly obtained native redbud trees to replace the one lost in the Zilhart enclosure. With tree and gopher wire in hand, Betsy and Jim did an excellent job of giving our new planting a welcoming start. In that glorious setting with the dappled light we remembered our dear friends Rick and Henry, long time Spring Hill volunteers who have recently passed away.
As usual we spent much time raking and cleaning stones, leaving the cemetery in great shape. Our next workday, the last of 2017, will be on November 17th. Please come and join us if you can!
Best Regards,
Sue
