Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery, Nine of us gathered at Spring Hill today for the second work day of the year. The weather was delightful for working - dry and cool, particularly dry due to the continuing California drought. The cemetery welcomed us with paths covered in leaves, just waiting for us to get busy. The first attachment shows our leaf strewn paths. Most of our day was spent raking the leave into piles, putting the piles onto tarps, and hauling the filled tarps to the dump truck to empty (second picture). Luckily, we were able to completely clear our paths before we overfilled the truck. Larry worked on clearing the area between our newly discovered Florence Lavender stone and Daniel Crayne. It had become overrun with grasses. He also put in a trail spur leading to the two burials (third picture). In the process he came across an old Nesbitt Soda bottle (forth picture). In browsing the Internet, it seems the bottle is post 1945, most likely ca 1955. Our final two attachments are of the group, with the last being a close up of the Brainerd Jones Preservation Award given last month by the Sonoma County Historical Society at their annual meeting in recognition of our efforts. It is an honor to have our hard work appreciated in this manner. Thank all of you for your contributions! The cemetery is looking absolutely lovely. Please join us June 19th for our next work day so that we can keep it this way.
Sue
