PIONEER DIES UNAWARE WIFE HAS SUCCUMBED

Knowledge of Passing of Spouse Week Ago Kept From Thompson Harris

Thompson M. (Tom) Harris, who had lived most of the 78 years of his life in California, a good part of that in Sonoma county, died yesterday at a local hospital without having learned that his wife Mary A. Harris, had preceded him to the grave by a little more than a week. Mrs. harris died last week after a long illness and her husband, who then was in such critical condition that no hope was held for his recovery, was not informed of it.
His parents, Jacob and Phoebe Harris, were pioneers of this section, coming to Sonoma county from Indiana in 1854. They owned two ranches near Santa Rosa at different times before going to Sutter county, where they remained for some time, returning to the vicinity of this city in 1863. Mrs. Harris, mother of Thompson Harris was a member of the Fulkerson family.
As a young man "Tom" Harris lost an arm, but despite the handicap was successful in his endeavors. He lived 65 years on the old home place, near the Rural cemetery.
Harris, the father of Mrs. William P. Terry of Pinole and Mrs. Fern Reeder and Bert Harris of Vallejo, had lived near Santa Rosa since the early days of this city. He was born in Iowa 78 years ago and had been in this state 74 years. Florence Harris of Richmond is a sister.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Lafferty and Smith chapel, with the Reverend J. Miller Ice officiating and burial in the family plot at the Fulkerson cemetery.
