...The deposition of Abrigail Fulkerson widow of
Jacob Fulkerson dec'd taken at her house in Planib? in Nelson county Ky on the 18th day of August 1847
before Haden E. Stone a Justice of the Peace for Nilson County to establish the
marriage of John Fulkerson with Margaret his wife, Dec.
The
deponent Abrigale Fulkerson being first sworn by me deprod? and said that she was seventy seven years old and
that she married Jacob Fulkerson who was the brother of John Fulkerson in the
year seven hundred and Eighty Eight and four or five years after her marriage
with Jacob Fulkerson John Fulkerson and his wife Margaret and their family of
children settled near the deponent where she now lives and she then became
intimately acquainted with the whole family. John Fulkerson's son Peter he was
a young man fully grown and two or three of the other children were nearly
so.
The
deponent had seen and heard read the deposition of the said Peter Fulkerson in
which he stated he was seventy two years old on the 9th of April 1847, which
statement she believes to be true from her own knowledge judging from the said
Peter's size when she first knew him. The brother of John Fulkerson and
deponents husband Jacob Fulkerson ? in the
family of the deponent many years and died in said family about twenty two
years ago. She had a Dutch Bible, in which she kept the record of her family
containing their marriages, births and deaths and included the marriage of John
Fulkerson with his wife Margaret and the ages of all their children, together
with deponents marriage with her ? Jacob
Fulkerson and their children.
The
said Dutch Bible containing the family record as stated above was left in the
possession of the deponent and put by her in a chest for safe keeping that
about ten years ago some water got into the chest and destroyed the record and
a great portion of the Bible. The deponents memory is not very good but from
the best recollection she has of said family record sustained by what she had
heard said John and Margaret say the said John and Margaret Fulkerson late
Margaret Bruner were married in Sussex County in the State of New Jersey in the
year seventeen hundred and seventy four.
The
deponent states that the Bible and record were both destroyed when in her
possession long after the death of her husband Jacob Fulkerson.
Signed by her mark.
