Jack Thomas deposition, Grayson County, September 20, 1852.

Jack Thomas, age 62.

 

...well known as a credible person sworn that he was the clerk of Grayson County for 41 years.

That he was personally acquainted with John Fulkerson deceased who was a Revolutionary Pensioner and drew a pension at the rate of Eighty Dollars per annum.

...that he had know John Fulkerson for a space of 27 years that he had written out in his own hand the declaration that said John Fulkerson had made in order to obtain the pension that he was also acquainted with Margaret Fulkerson late of said county the widow of John Fulkerson.

That he knew them living together as husband and wife for many years and had no doubt and never heard the fact doubted, that they were lawfully married.

That he was also personally acquainted with Peter Fulkerson their son.

...that he the said Peter is a man of truth and veracity and is at least 77 years of age and must have been born in the year 1775. And consequently the said John Fulkerson and Margaret (whose maiden name was reputed to have been Margaret Bruner) must have been married as early as the year 1774...
