Stephen T.
Fulkerson, one of the best known pioneers of this section, and a man who
crossed the plains with an ox team in 1853, passed over the last divide
Thursday night, about 11 o' clock. He had led an active and energetic life
until a few years ago, when he retired from his splendid Ranch and came to the
city to spend his declining days.
The Fulkerson ranch in Rincon Valley is
one of the best known properties in this section of the state and it was there
that the deceased resided so long a time. After coming to this city to reside
permanently he was stricken with paralysis, and the disease gradually
encroached until he became bedfast and then came the end.
Throughout his
sufferings he was patient and forebearing and welcomed the end.
The
deceased was a son of "Uncle Dickie" Fulkerson, and he was married on August
19, 1858, and is survived by his devoted widow, six children and twenty-six
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Three children born of the union
have passed away. The children are Mrs. Clara Grider of Tulare, Richard
Fulkerson of Rincon Valley, Mrs. Nora Leggett, Bruce C. Fulkerson and Mrs.
Helen Cummings all of Santa Rosa. The deceased children were Henry and William
Fulkerson and Mrs. Mollie Wendt.
In 1908 the golden wedding anniversary of
the celebrated here, and it was made an occasion of more than ordinary
interest, nearly two hundred guests being present mainly members of the family
and those related by marriage.
The funeral of the late S. T. Fulkerson will
be held Sunday at 3 o'clock from the residence. Rev. Peter Colvin will
officiate.
