____ AGED PIONEER IS CALLED
TO REST
_____
Stephen T. Fulkerson, Who Came to Rincon Valley in 1853, Passes Away Thursday Night
____
Stephen T.
Fulkerson, who crossed the plains with an ox team with his parents in 1853, and
settled in Rincon Valley where he resided up to 1903, when he retired from
active work and moved into Santa Rosa, passed away about 11 o'clock Thursday
evening. The deceased was a son of "Uncle Dickie"
Fulkerson who gave the land for Fulkerson's cemetery from his holdings, and a
brother of Mrs. Phoebe Harris of this city. He was a well known man for many
years, but for some time past he had been confined to his home, and since a
year ago in September to his bed. He was
partially paralyzed many years ago, and this gradually grew worse until he was
called by death. He was a great sufferer, but patient and thoughtful for those
about him. He was ready and welcomed the end, as a transformation from sorrow
and pain to a brighter and better world. Mr.
Fulkerson was born in Kentucky, July 7, 1841, and was married August 29, 1858.
He is survived by his wife and six children, twenty-six grand children and
seven great grand children. Three of his children have preceeded him into the
future. The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Fulkerson was celebrated at their
home in this city. August 29, 1905, when nearly 200 members of the family
including those related by marriage were present. The surviving children are Mrs. Clara Grider of Tulare;
Mrs. Laura Badger, Santa Rosa; Richard Fulkerson, Rincon Valley; Mrs. Nora
Leggett, Bruce C. Fulkerson and Mrs. Helen Cummings, all of Santa Rosa. The
late Harry and William Fulkerson and Mrs. Mollie Wendt where also his children.
Announcement of the funeral will be made later.
