EXHIBIT

Case of Lydia M. Thompson , No. 130.656

-------<>-------

On this 27th day of January , 1876, at

Rheatown , County of Greene

State of Tennessee before me, G. H. Ragsdale

a Special Agent of the Pension Office, personally appeared Nathaniel

Pickering , who, being by me duly sworn according to law,

declares that his age is 57 years, that he resides at Rheatown

County of Greene , State of Tennessee and that

he was a Sargent in Company F 3rd Tennessee Mounted Infantry; That this regiment was mustered into service in September 1864 for 100 days that the regiment was mustered out of service in November 1864; That after being mustered out the Captain of the company, Joseph Bowers, stated that he had secured authority to recruit an independent scout for 12 months or during the war; That affiant and about fifteen others agreed to go as they were not safe at home or apart from each other and they stayed together; That some time in January they stopped at the house of Mrs. Collett and while there were over-taken by a large number of Confederates; That they fought the rebels as long as they could hold out and then surrendered; That only two of our men were wounded before surrender that immediately after surrender the rebels shot and killed Vincent Thompson, the late husband of the pensioner in the above quoted case; That affiant does not know whether Thompson had enlisted or not, he had just come to the party that morning; That the rebels killed three others of the party because they had killed some rebels; That they shot Bowers, left him for dead but he did not die; That the other men were sent to rebel prison; That Thompson never belonged to Company F 3rd Tennessee Infantry though he had been with the company a few times; That Lieutenant Alexander Hicks was not with the party at the time Thompson was killed.

and he further declares that he has no interest, direct or indirect, in the claim
of Lydia M Thompson for a Pension; and further saith not.
