Jacob was the guardian for the ch. of 5, John Koontz after John's death in 1831. Jacob bought 109 A. of land from John Pence son of Lewis Pence on 29 Sept. 1791 and was a part of 440 A. of a Lord Fairfax grant made to Lewis Pence on 7 Nov. 1757. From Shenandoah Co. Surveyors Book of 1794-1817, p. 349 there is a drawing for a 230 A. plot of land with the following statement:: "By virtue of a Land Office Treasury Warrant No. 5704 issued the 22nd day of July 1816 for 1000 acres to James Modesitt part there of being assigned to Jacob Konntz by the said Modesitt who entered the same on the Surveryors Book. I have surveyed for the said Jacob Koontz one certain tract piece or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Shenandoah in the Piney Mountain between the blue ridge and the little Hawksbill Creek..." The document goes on to give the land boundary and that it touches George Prince's line and a courner of Peter Metz, Sr.'s.
