He came probably with the rest of the family and was in Warren Co., KY, in 1799, as he was appointed a road worker then too. James obtained a land grant, No. 2149, on 4 March 1800 on Drakes Creek. This was next to his father, Samuel's, farm. He was a slave owner; in 1820 he had 2, 1830 and 1840 he had 1 female slave named Gin. James will was written 23 January 1843 and presented for probate 12 June 1843. In it he lists wife, Elizabeth; sons, Isaac and Stephen; daughters, Nelly, Rebecca, and Nancy; brother Robert; and slave, Gin. It is believed he and his wife were buried in the family graveyard on Samuel's farm. Elizabeth died between 1843 and 1848.
