Notes:
In Jeanne Miller's notes there is a John D. Meyers (Myers) reference in the History of Cass and Bates County Missouri, p. 835 (Sutro q.977.8 C.). As well as on, p. 272, in regards to his marriage to Susan B. Myers. John D. Myers appears to have been a Judge of Bates County. There was also a Wm. H. Myers mentioned in History of Cass and Bates County, p. 507, who crossed the Rocky Mtns. in 1853 to bring cattle to California, and returned in December of the same year. The connection between this Myers family and the John J. Myers of the 1849 Hudspeth-Myers Party is not known at this time. This Myers (also Meyers) who acted as the scout for the 1849 party had come to California in 1846 as a member of John C. Fremont's California Battalion. From What I Saw in California, by Edwin W. Bryant (Ross & Haines, Inc, Minneapolis: 1967), p. 367: |
J. J. Myers, sergeant-major, appointed lieutenant in January, 1847. |
The was also a John H. Meyers, who bought lot #10, 109 square varas, in Sonoma on 2 June 1849 (recorded in Sonoma County Grants, Book B Page 14).
