Listed in the 1850 Census for Davis County, Iowa, living in Union Township, dwelling #79, as Fleming Mize, age 39, a farmer born in Tennessee, with $3000 of Real Estate. Enumerated with him is Harriett, a. 30 bp. VA, assumed to be his wife, and their four children: Harriett, a. 8 bp. IA; Fleming D., a. 5 bp IA; Thomas J., a. 3 bp IA; and Franklin M. a. 1/2 bp. VA. Harriett's mother also appears to be ennumerated in this household as Steleben Briggs, a. 65 bp. VA along with perhaps a sister, Marenva Briggs, a. 25 bp. VA.
