Family's surname
also listed as Fechter and Fecktor. My father visited the Fetcher
family several times as a boy. They lived in the hills between Calistoga and
Santa Rosa in a cabin of unfinished rough wood. They had a large farm with lots
of milk cows and a trolly line from the barn to the house to move the milk.
They also had a large cider press in which they crushed wormy apples to make
cider from. There was also a cave or abandoned mine on their property which
scared my father when he went into it as a young boy. My father also said that
David Fetcher was a talented musician who could play any instrument which he
could pick up, including the saw. His sister was also skilled as a piano player
and would dance all over the seat as she played. Gatherings at which music was
played was apparently common in the Fetcher household. |
