Notes:

Charles Burnsides

From a letter written by my Uncle Hutch, dated March 1, 1997:
...Last Fall we went to Marshal IL to try to find some information on Charles Burnsides. Nice small town, but had to go to the County Seat in Casey to find out anything.
Could not find any info on birth of Charles Burnsides. The Court House Record Book starts 3-years after he was born. (He was born in 1875. Book starts in 1878).
The only Burnsides in the Record Book was a 3-month old child, burned to death in a fire. The child would have been born 3 or 4 years after Charles Burnsides if it was Charles' sibling. The dead child's father was Charles Burnsides. We wrote the Info. on a card and couldn't find the card when we got home.
There was no record of Charles Burnsides parents being killed in a horse buggy.
We also went to Hazel Dell (real small town) walked the cemetery found no familiar names.
We think Ruth Warner was not born in Casey, IL but was born on the family farm in Keysa, IL near Hazel Dell. We never located Keysa, IL. But Hazel Dell is close to the northern county line of Jasper County, and we think the records for Ruth Warners birth and the deaths of Charles Burnsides parents will be in Jasper County.
Hazel Dell is in Cumberland County and I think Keysa is in Jasper County Casey Marshal are in Clark County.
We Surmise -- Charles Burnsides Parents had a farm in Northern Jasper County, when they got killed Charles took over the farm. Eventually married neighbor Harriet Henry in 1899. Had four kids there. They all claimed to be from Casey as it is the closest town of any size.
