Like a flash, the sad new of the
untimely passing of Mr. Andrew Myric Stark, known to his hundreds of friends as
"Tad," spread over the town and country Monday morning. Mr. Stark died at his
home in DeView at 1:15 am., February 9, 1948. He
was busy at his popular grocery Saturday and made a trip to Augusta Sunday.
However, he had been taking shots from a doctor in Augusta for several weeks
for a heart ailment. He ate a hearty supper Sunday night and later became ill.
Mrs. Stark desired to call a doctor, but he insisted he did not need one.
Shortly after midnight his condition grew worse and at 1:15 when he arose from
his bed to go to another room, he fell to the floor. Dr. J. W. Morris was
called and answered immediately, but the end came before he arrived. Mr. Stark was 51 years, ten months and eleven days of
age. He was born at DeView March 28, 2896, a son of Lena (Brown) Stark and the
late Gideon Stark. He was married July 4, 1920, at DeView to Miss Winnie
Wright, who with his mother and one sister, Mrs. Robert Wright, survive him. He
was a member of the DeView Methodist church which he helped to rebuild. He also
was a loyal Mason, a good Christian, a loving husband and a devoted son. His
friends were legion, and enemies, he had none. Funeral services were conducted at the DeView
Methodist Church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., by Rev. J. W. Sandage, pastor, assisted
by Rev. A. N. Storey of North Little Rock, a former pastor, and Rev. Jesse L.
Johnson, pastor of the McCrory Methodist Church. the church was packed with
sorrowing friends and relatives and a larger number were outside. All business
houses in McCrory closed for the funeral. Services was concluded at the grave under the auspices
of Colony Lodge No. 190, F. & A. M., of McCrory. Mr. C. Lester Hannah, of
Little Rock, was master of ceremonies with about 40 members of the fraternity
attending. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery with Funeral Director Walter
W. Raney in charge, Mr. Stark having been a member of the Raney Burial
Association. Active pall bearers were: James
Taylor, Victor Capshaw, Tom Turner, Minor Tyer, Otto Miller and H. V. Pankey.
Honorary pall bearers were: J. G. Wilson, R. C.
Willcox, Otto Little, G. L. Morris, R. C. Chappell, Ralph Fore, Dale Pltter, G.
L. Carson, Dan Stout, George Wright, S. M. Anderson, John Raymond, Glenn
Glover, Jim Miller, Roy Rubottom and Woodrow Maloy. The family lot was completely covered with many
beautiful floral offerings which was just another attestation of the high
esteem in which he was held. |
