Notes:
According to cemetery records Jeremiah Claypool was a 1st Sargent in
Company E, 8th California Infantry in the Spanish American War.
There is
mention of him as well as Company "E" in "Local Patriots and Heroes," by
William Cummings, Jr., The Cemeterian Vol. 10, No. 1, January 2003
(Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery Preservation Committee: Santa Rosa). In the same
article there is also mention of a J. E. Cockrill of Company 1 of the
1st Washington Infantry who was also a veteran of the Philippine campaign who
lived in Santa Rosa. It is not clear at the moment how or if he is related to
the Sonoma County Cockrill family.
Jeremiah Walter
Claypool also ran Claypool's Pharmacy (443 Fourth Street, successor to
Beltdin & Wpp) in Santa Rosa for many years.
