Jeanne Miller's papers. Died in infancy. In a family history and autobiography written by William Aaron COCKRILL, he states that “Elizabeth Laurene, Helen Marie, Theodore Guavarus, Olivia, Rebecca and William Cockrill” were all born in Kentucky and then the family moved to Red Dirt, Bates County, Missouri where Ida, Robert and Bruce were born. However Allen County, Kentucky Tax lists and the Mary Peck letter dated at 1832/1838 indicates that Larkin’s children as early as Lucinda were born in Missouri. Also, the D. A. R. entry for Obadiah Hoag, states that his wife, “Lurana Elizabeth,” was born in Bates County, Missouri. However, the 1850 Bates County Census, shows all of Larkin’s children being born in Kentucky from the 20 year old “Ellesif” to the 1 year old Robert, while the 1860 Sonoma County Census for Larkin’s family show Theodore and Helen being born in Kentucky where as Helen, Rebecca, Ida, Robert, and Bruce show up being born in Missouri. The 1860 Sonoma Census listing for Obadiah and Elizabeth show them both being born in New York (!). Because of these inconsistencies, there is some doubt which are the correct birth places for at least Lucinda, Lurana, and Rebecca. |
