WILLIE S. SON OF ENOCH & M. E. FRANCIS
BORN OCT. 24, 1874
DIED JULY 20, 1894

Thou hard to give the up, thy will O’ God be done.

Footstone: unknown

Willie’s grave is in remarkable shape, although his grave itself needs a little more topsoil. I used to watch out for this grave when I was a kid. This hole is pretty deep. Another square stone is in the hole also. We have to do some more weed-eating in the next few weeks.
Willie is buried next to his mother. He also has a younger brother Stephen A. Francis who is buried on the other side of M.E. Francis. The father, Enoch Francis, is not known as being buried here.

M.E. WIFE OF ENOCH FRANCIS
BORN FEB. 4, 1849
DIED JAN. 30, 1881

A faithful wife and mother dear,
In sweet repose is sleeping here,
Her painful loss we deeply feel,
But God can all our sorrows heal.

Brown E’TOWN KY

Footstone noted with initials M.E.F.

Mrs. M.E. Francis, (I wish I knew her first name) is buried between two of her sons. Willie S Francis is on the left and Stephen A. Francis is on the right. Mr. Enoch Francis, husband and father of those listed above, is not found here. The top of her monument is broken off. As of October 5, 2003, I have not found it yet. This piece may be too small to recover, but it can be possible to recast it.
It’s interesting that the stone maker Brown from E’town (Elizabethown, KY) is also noted on the stone under the inscription.

    STEPHEN A. SON OF E. & M.E. FRANCIS
BORN MAY 8, 1873
DIED SEPT. 27, 1873

Footstone noted with initials S.F.

Stephen’s stone is broken from the base, but is otherwise fairly good condition. His stone is smaller and can not be seen in the pictures above due to the weeds. His tombstone is in the shape of a scrolled paper.

ELIZABETH WIFE OF S.C. CLAYPOOL JR.
BORN JAN. 26, 1826
DIED MAY 28, 1862

Footstone missing or unknown

Elizabeth’s stone is the one closest to the front. It’s broken into three large pieces. Her stone resembles the same as George W. Claypool’s stone as to the artwork and shape. I don’t know what the family relation is of Elizabeth and George, but the stones are identical.
See notes under Stephen Claypool (Jr.) for possible connection between Elizabeth and this individual (as well as his connection to the individuals on the following two identified stones).

M. L. Daughter of S. C. & ELIZABETH CLAYPOOL
BORN APRIL 21, 1854
DIED [ date buried]

Footstone noted with initials M. L. C.

The date of death hasn’t been recorded this trip, I was by myself when I started cleaning this one, and I didn’t want to tempt fate. ML has a pretty rose adorning the top of the stone. She is buried next to her mother Elizabeth and possible half sisters Katie B. Claypool and Mildred V. Claypool.

Katie’s tombstone was broken from the base and was lying face up in front of the base. I found this one on September 5, 2003 almost 132 years to the date of death.
