Notes:
According to Valerie Longmire, her great granddaughter, Maude McReynolds had changed her name to Ada. She was secretive about her true heritage and evasive about her age:
Maude wrote on the back of a picture to my
Mother that she was a decendant of the infamous "Molly
Pitcher," boy was she wrong. It took me two years to figure out that
puzzle, she was a unique individual she didn't want anyone to know her real
age. She was beautiful and extremely vain. Even her death certificate is wrong
it gives her birth as being many years AFTER her fathers death... Maude's death
certificate puts her birth in about 1886 BUT her father died in 1880? I believe
she was born in 1876 or so... I think Maude was possibly embarrassed about her
Family? Haven't a clue why... Maude married Walter Dolley in 5-1899. Wardell was born 8-21-1900. Maude divorced Walter because he was a drunk and used to sleep with the Indian girl prostitutes in Sierra Ville (this is true)... I don't know if he remarried but Maude did. She married Clarence Rees around 1919 right after WWI. Clarence "Tassie" as I called him was a wonderful man. I loved him dearly, he died when I was 8 but I remember him well. Him and Maude were in High society in San Francisco. Thespians club I have pictures and a few home movies of their life. Clarence was one of the original owners of the Jaguar dealership's on Van Ness in SF... They hung out with all the old movie stars and I heard Maude was an extra in one of Charlie Chaplin's films made in Niles Canyon, Ca. I think "The Little Tramp". I do believe this to be true because of pictures we have of Clarence with Carmen Miranda... Maude died in 3-1946. She came home from work, lied quietly on the bed for a rest and passed peacefully in her sleep. She was about 79, but she always looked so young. |
Also, from Valerie Longmire:
Wardell died when my Mom was three in a train crash in 9-1940. This was the last picture taken of him. |
