It appears that the Cannon family was split up after they arrived in Santa Rosa. In the 1860 Census for the Santa Rosa Township, pp 417-418, 'James K P Cannon' (a. 7), 'Louis Linn Cannon' (a. 5), 'Jerome B. Cannon' (a. 4), and 'Mary Cannon' (a. 1) where listed in the household (dwelling family #231) of John G. (a. 31, b. MO, Occ: 'Min M. E. South') and Joana (a. 29 b. TN) Huff with two Huff children: Alpheus (a. 10) and Joshua (a. 8), both born in Missouri. This listing shows James, Lewis, and Jerome being born in Oregon and Mary in California. Rachel is not listed in this 1860 Census for Sonoma County.
From An Illustrated History of Sonoma County, California (Chicago: The Lewis Publishing Company, 1889), biography of John Fulkerson, p. 329:
A 12 year old, Mary Cannon, is listed living with John and Rachel in the 1870 Census for Sonoma County.
Her brother, James Knox Polk Cannon married Ida Josephine Cockrill (one of Larkin Cockrill's daughters). For a genealogy of the Cannon family, see entry under James Knox Polk Cannon in The Cockrill Line.
