I think we can help each other quite a bit in filling out our Hawkins genealogy. My g-g -grandfather was Benjamin Hawkins b. June 03, 1803 in Randolph county NC. He married (1) Elizabeth Kindley (1825) and (2) Elizabeth Varner (1831). These marriages are documented by his family bible and county marriage records. Family legend says that Ben's father was John m. (1) Mary (Polly) Goodman, Rowan county NC 1796, and (2) Elizabeth Varner in Randolph county NC. I have documented 180 acres land on the Randolph/ Rowan county line sold by John Goodman to John Hawkins in 1804. I have also documented this same land sold by John Hawkins and his wife Elizabeth to Benjamin Hawkins in 1825 as well as land sold by Jacob and William Varner to Benjamin in 1831. Family legend says that after selling his land, John, wife and daughters moved from NC probably to Kentucky. The two Elizabeth Varners were probably cousins because the mother of Ben's Elizabeth had a sister who also married a Varner. I feel certain now that John Hawkins and Polly Goodman were Ben's parents. Also it seems that he is the same John Hawkins which you referenced in your e-mail to Weldbank. However, there are a couple of inconsistencies. (1) You list John as having been born 6 Mar 1779 in Indianapolis, IN. NC records document that John m. Polly Goodman in Rowan county NC in 1796. Did he travel to NC and marry? Also, you list a son John by Mary Goodman John Hawkins born 26 Apr 1794. This would be 2 years before their marriage and John would have been only 15 and Polly only 13 years old at that time.
