Is enumerated as Zachariah Holland in the listing for his parents in the 1850 Census for North 018, Northampton Co., NC and as Zachariah Blackwell in the listing for his mother in the 1860 Census for Green Plains, Northampton Co., NC.

A picture of him with his brother may also exist.

Appears on the Company E, 56 North Carolina Confederate Infantry muster roll for August 31 to December 31, 1864. He enlisted September 4, 1862 in Northampton and had transferred from the 4th North Carolina Cavalry on November 30, 1864. He was captured near Petersburg on March 25, 1865 and released on June 13, 1865. He signed an Oath of Allegiance to the United States at Point Lookout, Md. on June 13, 1865. At the time he had a light complexion, gray eyes, and was 5 feet 6 inches tall. He signed the oath by his mark.
