her death is from Joe Holland, and his source for this is unknown at this
time. Don Lott, a Holland family researcher, has found a marriage record for 7 June 1856 between a Jane Holland and an Arthur Blackwell and suggests that James Holland passed away and Jane remarried. He also found a listing for a 45 year old Jane Blackwell in the 1860 Census for District 10, Green Plains Post office, Northampton Co., NC. Also ennumerated in the same household is Nancy A. Blackwell (a. 19), William H. Blackwell (a. 16), Zachariah Blackwell (a. 12), Sarah Blackwell (a. 80), Ariella Blackwell (a. 8), and Jason Blackwell (a. 6). The names and ages of this family correspond well with those for James and Jane Holland in the 1850 Census for the same area: Jane Blackwell to Jane Holland, Nancy A. Blackwell to Ann Holland, William H. Blackwell to William H. Holland, and Zachariah Blackwell to Zachariah Holland (1 year difference). The ages of Ariella and Jason Blackwell indicates that they were born before the marriage of Jane and Arthur indicating that James Holland died sometime between 1854 and 1856. Jane's second husband must have also died before 1860. In the 1850 Census for Northampton Co., NC (Roll # M432-639, Page 20B), there is a listing for a 60 year old farmer born in North Carolina, Arthur Blackwell living at dwelling # 323 along with Sally Blackwell (a. 65, bp. NC). This appears to be somewhat in the neighborhood where James and Jane Holland were living. No other individuals are listed at this dwelling and no other Blackwell is listed living in this community. A Northampton Co., NC marriage record exists for Arthur Blackwell and Sarah Horn, for 09/14/1824. She is probably the same Sarah Blackwell living with Jane and her family during the 1860 Census. As Donald Lott has indicated, Arthur and Sarah Blackwell must have had a son named Arthur, whom Jane Holland had married. After her husband died, Sarah/Sally Blackwell was living with the widow of her son. |
