Robert P. THOMPSON lived in Madison County, TN in an area
known as Spring Creek in the northeastern portion of the county and through the
years he and his family owned land which not only bordered Henderson County by
reached into that county as well. The assumption that Robert, who appeared in
1850 with a wife known as Ann or Annie, had married previously, is due to the
fact that Annie is so much younger than her husband and too young to have been
the likely mother of James Jerome. It is not known exactly how old Annie was,
but she was born around 1815 or 1816 according to census records, so was around
13 or 14 years old when James J. was born. It is possible she was James'
mother, but it is highly unlikely. Robert P. THOMPSON, according to
various census records, was born ca. 1800 in Tennessee. He seems to have had at
least two children by his first wife, and four by his second wife, and one who
was in the middle who could have been son of either wife, depending upon what
his real age was and when the first wife died -- all of which is very
confusing, but seemingly no records have survived which could set us
straight. |
