From Lorece Wright's
family history: |
|
After Robert and Ida Wright married in
1886 they lived in a small house on the farm that his father, E. A. Wright
owned, southeast of McCrory, Arkansas. This area had a lot of swampy areas that
bred mosquitoes and as a result, Malaria and Swamp Fever ran rampant. Robert
and Ida lost three children within a three month period. Around 1904, Robert Wright moved the family to
Magazine, Arkansas, searching for a healthier climate. They moved back to the
McCrory area from Magazine about 1910 where they bought a farm next to what is
known as the "Beards Cemetery". Every Saturday,
Robert would hitch up their mule named, Ada, to the wagon and they would go to
McCrory so Ida could sell her milk, butter and eggs. Robert Wright was a pillar of the community and was
loved by everyone. He was a member of "Good Hope Baptist Church", and in 1928,
was elected as a delegate to the Baptist Annual Associational Meeting. He was
very proud to be selected and Ida took her butter and egg money and ordered him
a new suit from Sears and Roebuck. Unfortunately, a short time before the
meeting would occur, Robert suffered a stroke, then developed pneumonia and
died in October of that year. His church and the whole community mourned his
passing as he was a great humanitarian, helping anyone he could whether it be
day or night. |
