In the DeView column of The Home News, compiled by Lela J. Knight Ashburn in "DeView News From Days Gone By -- 1918," Rivers and Roads and Points in Between, Vol. XVIII (McCrory: Woodruff County Historical Society, 1991), pp. 43-45:
  September 6, 1918--
--Chester Wright is up here learning the blacksmith trade. He knows how to put out fires and how to burn up wagon tires, and he has also learned how to blow the whistle.

  November 8, 1918--
--Hearing that the navy called for volunteers, the Messrs Tom Turner, Ned McMurty, Joe Wright, and Chester Wright left Monday night, amid tears and such phrases as "May there be no sadness of farewell when I embark" to see about it. They all arrived home Tuesday.
