My Aunt Kathleen recently died. She had been in the nursing home for about 2 years after having done very well and, even driving, into her early 90s. Aunt Kathleen was married to my "Uncle Bubba", often referred to as G.W. Barber,Jr.;even though I believe his name was George Winston Barber. His Dad was G.W. Barber whose full name was George Washington Barber,referred to us as "Big Daddy."...

McCRORY - Kathleen Marsh Barber, resident of McCrory, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007. She was 93 years of age. Visitation will be from 12-1:45 p.m. Saturday with funeral following at 2:00 at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in McCrory. Interment will be in Fakes Cemetery. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Directors of McCrory are in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Barber was born November 15, 1914, in Woodruff County, the daughter of the late Robert Milton and Ruth Wright Marsh. She was a graduate of Cotton Plant High School and Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA). She was a teacher in the McCrory School District until her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Barber was a member of the McCrory First United Methodist Church for over 70 years and served on the Administrative Board. She was a long-time member of the McCrory Garden Club and took great pride in her yard and flowers. Mrs. Kathleen was married to George W. Barber, Jr. for 53 years until his death in 1988. She is survived by one son, George Milton Barber, one daughter, Patricia Singer, four grandchildren; Travis Singer, Felicia Ward, Kelly Denton and Greg Barber, six great-grandchildren: Allan Singer, Spencer Ward, Lexie Singer, Morgan Ward, Shelby Denton and Jena Barber. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers; Andrew Lee and R.M. Marsh. Memorials may be sent to the McCrory Methodist Church or the Woodruff County Health Care or a charity of choice. ? |
