Notes:
The family story was that he arrived in America as a stow-away on a ship from England at the age of 14. His first wife died and he eventually remarried a large woman known as Rachel. He left Grandmother Burnsides a small amount of money when he died. She bought a new icebox with what he gave her.
A William Henry listed as head of household in 1880 Census (Vol. 27 Ed. 163 sheet 6 line 7), Willow Hill Twp, Jasper County, a. 32 b. England. Enumerated with Ellen M. Henry assumed to be Hellen, wife, a. 31, b. Indiana, and Nillie G. assumed to be Nellie, daughter, a. 4, b. Illinois.
The 1900 Census for Crooked Creek Twp, Cumberland Co., IL (sheet 50 page 3), dwelling 66, Henry, William, head and widower. Born Dec 1845 (a. 54), England (both parents born in England), immigrated in 1853, lived in US for 47 years, naturalization: "N/A". A farmer who can read and write, and rents a farm. Enumerated with Harriet E., daughter, b. Aug 1883 (a. 16) in Illinois (father born in England, mother in Illinois), can read and write; John, son, b. Aug 1886 (a. 13) in Illinois, going to school; and Pearl, son, b. Feb 1890 (a. 10), in Illinois, going to school.
The 1910 Census for Cumberland Co., IL, lists Henry, William M. as head, age 63 and born in England. Enumerated with wife, Rachel, a. 52 b. IL, and son, Pearl, a. 20. b. IL.
Ruth Warner, my grandmother, told a story that he brought the family farm in Missouri when they left for Arkansas. She said that he also had a library containing several nicely bound books and small children were not allowed in that room. Somehow he ended up in Arkansas and is buried next to Charles Burt Burnsides, outside of Hickory Ridge.
