From ANDERSON, COCKRILL, MOFFETT, SMITH & Allied Families of Northern Virginia -- VOLUME 1: Cockrill Families of Northern Virginia, by James A. Burgess (James A. Burgess, Arizona: 2002), Chapter 7, "Thomas Cockrell and Leticia Bailey," p. 113: |
I believe that Thomas COCKRELL was born and raised on or near Chimney Stone Branch, Carter's Run near the Heflin Moffett Cemetery... They were religious people belonging to the Enon Old School Baptist Church. Thomas COCKRELL and Lettetia BAILEY were not rich in earthly blessings, but I feel that they lived a good life on Carter Run, Fauquier County, Virginia. Joseph BAILEY is listed as the bondsman for the marriage of Thomas COCKRELL and Lettetia BAILEY. ...According to a letter to John Gott by helen AYOTTE, Thomas and Lettetia COCKRELL lived on a farm near Little Georgetown, in Fauquier County, Virginia... They are buried side by side on the hill at the Heflin Moffett Cemetery near Jesse MOFFETT brother of Anderson COCKRELL.... William COCKRILL and Frances JONES were also Baptist!

NOTE: Several members of the family have told me that John Thomas COCKRILL could look at a steer or cow and guess the wight within 5 pounds. He may have gained some of his experience from the above steer. Interesting. |
