Though it is generally believed that she was born in Bates County, Missouri, her granddaughter, Lorraine F. O’Connor, listed Pike County, Missouri as her place of birth.

Had to get her father's permission before marriage according to Santa Clara Co. Marriage Records, Book B Page 122. She was married in her parent's garden according to Lorraine F. O’Connor: "She wore a dress of 'Ashes of Roses' with a gray bonnet." from material which she got from her soon-to-be husband.

She was living (appears listed as Fancuf, E. W., age 23, bp. MO, in the 1870 Census -- see full listing under Edward Raphael Faneuf) in Alisal Township (Blanco), Monterey County with her first husband, two sons, and a daughter in dwelling #243. Her parents were enumerated in dwelling #241. An Edward Maddock, age 21, b. England, "laborer," is also listed living in dwelling #244.

Enumerated with Edward Faneuf as Nancy in the 1880 Census for Alisal Township (Blanco), Monterey County. The William Bardin family is listed living in dwelling #65, the Jesse Bardin family in dwelling #66, the James Bardin, Sr. Family in dwelling #67, and the Edward Maddock family in dwelling #72.

Appears to be listed in the 1890 San Jose City Directory, including Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties for Blanco, Monterey County, as:

  Maddock E Mrs, farmer

From Lorraine F. O’Connor (February 5, 1961, copy from Bert Wonnacott):

Grandma had a rough time rasing her seven [after E. R. Faneuf died], but took in sewing, and made men's shirts. She took care of her neighbor, Mrs. Maddock, on the next ranch, and then after her death, Edmond [sic] Maddock and Nancy Faneuf were married. He had three children, Alfred, Hannah, and John. Together they had Victor, who died at 2, and Harry, still in Laramie. The Faneuf boys were some what noisy and extraverted, and Grandpa Maddock disapproved. Charles, Ernest and Raphaël, now Ralph, took off at separate times for Hawaii, then a wild, adventurous trip.

"Aunt Nan" is said to have been the source of the information in an early family history document, "Information Concerning the Family of Mrs. Jesse Bardin as told to Winifred Readmiller by Nancy Maddock". In one of the versions of the documents, she is listed as being married to a Sam Faneuf, which is very confusing (like her listing as E. W. Fancuf in the 1870 Census) considering that she is the one that is supposedly the source of this information.
