Notes:
Jacob Beaver is listed in the 1850 Census for Bates County, MO, as living in District No. 6, dwelling #524, as Jacob Beaver, age 45, born in Virginia. Enumerated with Catharine (a. 41, bp. VA), Nancy (a. 18, bp. OH), David (a. 15, bp. OH), Mary (a. 15, bp. OH), Lucy (a. 13, bp. OH), Lydia (a. 6, bp. MO), and Jacob (a. 3, bp. MO). This family appears to have come to Missouri between 1837 and 1844. Also in the Bates County 1850 Census for District No. 6, besides Henry Beaver (dwelling #255) and Nancy (Beaver) Blackburn (dwelling #258), are Richard Beaver (dwelling #344), age 36, a farmer born in Virginia, enumerated with Electy (a. 31, bp. OH), Napoleon (a. 10, bp. MO), George (a. 7, bp. MO), Hamilton (a. 5, bp. MO), and Samuel (a. 3, bp. MO); and Joseph Beaver (dwelling #180), age 49, born in Ohio, enumerated with Jemima (a. 45, bp VA), John (a. 27, bp. OH), Frances (a. 18, bp. OH), Edwin (a. 13, bp. OH), William (a. 9, bp. MO), Nancy (a. 7, bp. MO), Julia (a. 5, bp. MO), and Joseph (a. 2, bp. MO).
Jacob Beaver's children were believed by Jeanne Miller and Janice Patterson to have been nieces and nephews of Henry Beaver, making Jacob his brother. Jeanne had also listed this Jacob as being Henry's father in some of her early genealogies for Henry. She also lists his birth as being 1814. Documentation for this particular Jacob does not appear match any of the Jacobs in I. M. Beaver's History and Genealogy of the Bieber, Beaver, Biever, Beeber Family. David Beaver, believed to be Henry's father, had a great-nephew named Jacob Beaver as well, though it does not appear to be the same individual. From the 1850 Census and other circumstantial evidence, there indeed appears to be some connection between this Jacob and Henry. However, what the exact relationship might be, is unsupported by any solid documentation and is therefore unclear at this time. Whatever the case, it does appear that Henry Beaver, took three of Jacob's children to California as members of the Hagans-Cockrill party in 1853: the two twins, David and Mary who were eighteen at the time, and their younger sister, fifteen year old Lucy. Perhaps they were old enough to be out on their own or perhaps Jacob and Catherine had passed away between the 1850 Census and 1853.
