Notes:

Copied from Ruth Kidwell

I met Maggie Baggs at least once and she was a fairly short person. I had attended the 50th Wedding Anniversary party for Maggie and Lee Fouts (along with my brother and parents) when I was 14. It was held at the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce Building in the center of town, on a Sunday, October 23, 1960. We had cake and punch for refreshments. Though I do not remember much of the event, I do remember we were not clear how Maggie and Lee were related to us until my grandmother explained what seemed to be at the time, a convolved connection. The party was put on by Barbara Lankford, her granddaughter, with the help of her cousins.

From Barbara Lankford: "Maggie Wakeland came to Sebastopol late 1900 or early 1901." (Letter 8 Jan 1994).
In Sebastopol California, History, Homes & People 1855-1920 by Eveyln S. McClure (Sebastopol: Belle View Press, 1995), page 80, there is a description of a house at 7402 Bodega Avenue:

Gothic Revival, Built 1890. Delphine Hammy sold this property in 1899 to Anna G. Ross who sold to George Strout in 1900. Mr. Strout resold to Maggie E. Wakeland in 1903.

Another description on page 151, describes a house at 642 Petaluma Avenue, in Sebastopol:

Queen Ann Cottage, Built 1900. Justin Moore, executor for the estate of Frederick Gill, realtor, sold the property in 1904 to Fred Mattews, saloon keeper, who was the highest bidder at $83. Mr. Mathews resold the lot to Mrs. Belle P. Baggs and Mrs. Maggie E. Wakeland in 1905. They sold to Charles Johnson that same year.

According to family stories, John Wakeland had also built her house in Sebastopol.
My mom once told me that her and my father had once driven through Sebastopol with my grandmother, and she could name a large number of the families and where they had lived in the old part of town.
