Dear Cousin!
Looks like our great3
grandfathers were brothers!
Let me tell you
something abut me. I started to do family research in 1975 and stopped in 1983
to devote myself to my job. I was working at Historic Fort Snelling as a
tourguide and got very caught up in the research. Interestingly enough I found
out that both Turner (1800-39) and Charles (1806-72) were in the 5th Infy Regt.
stationed at Ft. Snelling. That's who we portrayed at Ft. Snelling -- the 5th.
Now my research took on a more personal tone! My husband and I met at Fort
Snelling and last year after 29 combined years of research we published a book
on the Snelling family and Ft. Snelling. After the book came out I decided to
get back in family research.
Now to your letter!
The 1936 letter is probably "Uncle Ike's" letter. Many Wakeland family
researchers take his letter with a grain of salt. Some information has been
verified, other info can't be verified.
I am just now getting
in touch again with other Wakeland researchers and would be happy to (trade)
pass on information to you. I am especially interested in your Turner --
especially since I'm still doing research on Ft. Snelling and its
occupants....

Enclosed is [my
extraction of] Turner's military record... As you can see he did not complete
his 5 year term due to illness -- maybe that's why he died so young. I've also
enclosed [an extraction of] his father Charles (1777-1852) military record. He
was in the Ohio militia right before the Fall of Detroit. He never made it to
Detroit. Colonel Snelling (then Captain) was at the Fall of Detroit!
I still wonder if
Nianettia/Manetta went with Turner to Ft. Snelling - the gap betwen the
children suggests no...
