Notes:

According to the "Uncle Ike" letter (unverified), Charles was four years old when his father died. The following is all mentioned in the letter: Emigrated to Western Kentucky to Green River Co. (now Ohio Co.) the town of McHenry, the county seat in 1797. In 1806 sold his possessions moved to Clermont Co., OH. Panic of 1837 bankrupted him after being "in very good circumstances." Died supposedly at the home of his son, Charles C. Wakeland, in New Madison, Ohio in 1852.

Information from Wakeland Family researcher, Barb Luecke (19 Mar 1994, letter) includes: that he was in the War of 1812 -- enlisted on 11 Aug 1812 to 30 Nov 1812 in the 1st Regt. (Sutton's) Ohio Militia. He probably was in the Battle/Fall of Detroit which took place on 16 Aug 1812. Listed in the Roster of 1812 Ohio Adjutant General's Office (Adj. Gen. Ohio 1916), page 19, as being a private in the "Roll of Capt. William McMain's (or McMean's) Company (from Clermont or Butler Counties)."

From Marna Wakeland Wilson:

When he was 18, he migrated with his widowed mother, one brother and two sisters to what is known as Ohio County, Kentucky. Charles and his family migrated from Bourbon County, Kentucky to Clermont County, Ohio in 1806. When the United States declared war against Great Britian in 1812 he enlisted in the Ohio volunteers. He served in the American Army under General Winfield Scott in the invasion of Canada and the battles of Lundy's Lane and Chippewa. In 1816, he moved with his family to Oxford, Ohio and in 1837 he located at New Madison, Darke County, Ohio where he passed away.
