Notes:

From a poor copy of his will (Marion County, Indiana Wills Book A Page 94), the following names for his children can just be barely made out: Abram A. Wakeland (oldest son), Preston D. Wakeland, John J. Wakeland, and Rhuhanna S. Wakeland. One can assume that Abram A. is Arthur A., however, it is unclear who Rhuhanna is. Names for his children used for this genealogy were extracted from a list in written by Eliza (Wakeland) Thompson in the Wakeland/Thompson diary.

Material extracted from his military service record by Wakeland Family researcher, Barbara Luecke (letter to me, 19 Mar 1994):

Turner Wakeland was enlisted in the 5th Infy by Major Foster on 3 August 1825 at Newport, Kentucky (across the Ohio River from Cincinnati). Turner's records indicate he was born in Bourbon Co. KY. Also, the following was included: 24 years, 5' 5-3/4", fair complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, occupation: laborer. He was in Capt. Plympton's compy. and went to Ft. Armstrong (Rock Island, IL) in 1826. During a lot of his enlistment he was back at Ft. Snelling and Ill. He was discharged on 9 January 1827 (enlistment period was 5 years) on a Surgeon's Certificate because of illness. He was given money for travel and food (subsistence) back to the place of enlistment (Newport, KY). Travel -- 20 miles and 16 cents a day -- total 740 miles from Ft. Armstrong (Rock Island, Il) and Newport, KY. Subsistence -- 12 1/2 cents a day. Also receives clothing and pay due (A private receives $5.00/month).
