step-mother, in the 1860 census in Madison County, and as John M. 17, farm
laborer, still with his parents in 1870, but living in Woodruff County, AR.
However, John M. and his sister, possibly in the company of their uncle, Hugh
A. THOMPSON, seemed to have returned to Madison County in Tennessee shortly
after 1870. John M. seems to have been the John M. THOMPSON who, with his wife,
Mary C. THOMPSON, sold their land on 20 November 1877. It was listed as being
291 acres in Madison County, District 12 (the Spring Creek area), and John M.
was listed as being a resident of Madison County. The land was given to John M.
under the will of Major J. W. FISHER, deceased, which led to the feeling that
J. W. (John W.) FISHER was somehow related to John M. THOMPSON. And as it
turned out, John W. was the grandfather of John M. and his sister Mary A.
THOMPSON. The land in question is also of interest in that John M. sold it
to A. H. Clark for $450. For some reason, John M. then returned to Woodruff
County, AR where he died shortly thereafter... |
