Shared the same dwelling site with Merrill Mize's family according to 1860 Census. A George Miller, farmer born in Missouri (1830) also shared this household. Jacob had $100 in personal property and no real estate in 1860.
A Frederick Mize, "nephew," 20, is listed living in his household along with a William Craig, "Laborer," 15, in the 1880 Census. Enumerated in this census (66) right before S. T. Fulkerson (67).
Jacob was also on the first school board for the Rincon Valley School, and his name appears on the deed of transfer of the school's land between Dr. T. S. Fulkerson and the board.

Jacob was involved in a suit: Superior Court Civil Case No. 2828, January 1891: Joseph W. Ridgeway, Plaintiff, -vs- T. M. Harris, Phebe Harris, and Jacob Harris, Defendants. Appears to have been a co-signer of a loan which his son obtained. An extracted transcription of this suit exists here linked to his son, Thompson Mize Harris.
