upon e-mailed request. Please drop me a line if you intend to link to any of
these pages from your website -- I am basically curious about who is out there
that might be interested in this material and also, so that I can keep you up
to date on any changes I may have planned. My basic motivation behind all of
this is to learn more about my family history, so any comments, corrections,
complaints, or criticisms will be welcomed and even appreciated.
In many ways this website is a
group effort and a collaboration which was begun many years before I got
involved, and in this regard, I function much like an editor and publisher
here, who occasionally puts in his own two cents now and then. I would
particularly like to acknowledge and thank the following individuals whose
research, labors, help, long talks, and critical advise, I have made and
continue to make copious use of here. Unfortunately several are no longer among us though we still follow their guidance studiously:
Jeanne Thurlow
Miller, Sonoma County historian whose
many years of research on
the 1853 Hagans-Cockrill
immigration, supplied much of the core documentation for this
genealogy.
Dr. John M. Baker, M. D.,
grandson of Eliza Livina (Cockrill)
McGuire and chief Cockrill resource person who introduced and connected me
with other researchers working on this family.
Herbert J. Boothroyd, Cockrill Family researcher who is
the great x 3 grandson of Anderson Hammett (son of
Dianah Cockrill) with extensive knowledge of early
Cockrill history.
Carolyn Claypool Thorsen,
Lucinda Ellender (Cockrill)
Claypools granddaughter and an early Cockrill researcher from which a
significant amount of this work has also been
derived.
Jim Burgess, Cockrill family
descendant and the Cockrill Family researcher who has compiled a
680 page genealogy on the family (with all its variants in spelling) in
ANDERSON, COCKRILL, MOFFETT, SMITH & Allied Families of Northern
Virginia, Volume 1: Cockrill Families of Northern Virginia (Arizona,
2002).
Gladys Higgs, great great
granddaughter of Joseph Venable COCKRILL and
another long-time Cockrill Family researcher and resource person who has spent
many years seeking the human details of a family which is often lost in the
mounds of dry facts.
Ross Williams, a
descendant of Henry Beaver and an exhaustive
Beaver Family researcher.
Cathy Berry, a
descendant of Lucinda Ellender (Cockrill)
Claypool and a Cockrill Family researcher.
Isabel Defenbaugh, related by marriage to a descendant
of James Conrad HAGANS and a Hagans Family
researcher.
William Lon Hagan Jr., a Hagan
Family descendant and a Hagan/Hagans Family researcher.
Rebecca Aileen Cockrill, a great granddaughter of
Dr. Bruce Travis Cockrill, and primary source here
for information and first-hand details about the descendants of Larkin
Cockrill.
Ellen Venable Poteet, a
descendant of Joseph and Lucy (Davenport) Venable, a "Pamunkey Davenport"
cousin, and Venable family researcher.
Nita Van
Cleave, a descendant of Tom Evans, the twin brother of Christopher Evans
(of Evans & Sontag
fame) and Evans family researcher.
Janice B.
Patterson, a descendant of David Beaver
(Henry Beaver's brother, and early Beaver family
researcher.
Susan Zeni, a descendant of
Isaac McReynolds and a McReynolds family source
and researcher.
Bessie Swenson, a
granddaughter of Mary Milvina Foster and long
time resident of the Cockrill family property in Monterey County.
John McKenzie, a descendant of Jesse and Jeanette
Bardin and keeper of a MacKenzie/McKenzie family website at
http://mckenzieusa.org/mckenzie/default.htm.
Kit Fuller, a descendant of the Hardin Family, and a
Hardin/Hopper/Potter Family researcher.
Bert
Wonnacott, a descendant of Edward R. and
Nancy (Beaver) Faneuf, and a Faneuf Family
researcher.
Valerie Longmire, great
granddaughter of Maude McReynolds, and a
McReynolds/McAbee Family researcher.
Shirley M.
Pope, great great granddaughter of Susannah
(Zilhart) Wells, and a Zilhart/Wells Family researcher.
Gary Rodgers,the webmaster of
The Cazadero, California
Website, and an Adams/Trosper Family researcher.
Denise Kitchens,a Claypool Family researcher and a
Bowling Green, KY
historical
preservationist.
Electa Grace (Thompson)
Wendt, my grandmother and wife of Milton Frederick Wendt, my
grandfather and the grandson of "Trib" and Amanda (Cockrill) Fulkerson (my great great
grandparents). My grandmother was the primary keeper of our family's
history, had an impressive memory, and lived 4 months shy of being 100. She was
my first teacher of family history and initiated me at an early age into its
mysteries and traditions. Similarly, as a young girl, she had learned the
family stories and the importance of their preservation from her uncle,
John James Wakeland
(1865-1954). In turn, we continue to learn from Uncle John's teachers.
